Certified Animal Welfare
Since 2018, all the farms that contribute daily to the collection of our milk have been included in a supply chain certified according to the DTP 122 standard, “Certification of Animal Welfare on Farms”.
The certification, issued by CSQA, is based on the technical criteria of the DTP 122 standard and on the assessment tools of the ClassyFarm system, developed at the initiative of the Italian Ministry of Health.
MILK FROM A CERTIFIED ANIMAL WELFARE SUPPLY CHAIN
The farms belonging to the supply chain periodically undergo an assessment based on the checklists established by ClassyFarm, as well as audits conducted by the certification body.
The assessments are carried out by specifically authorised veterinarians and cover the following areas: farm management, buildings and equipment, biosecurity, use of veterinary medicines and animal-based indicators.
In particular, the following aspects are assessed:
- farm management;
- availability of space and housing conditions consistent with the applicable requirements;
- hygiene, health conditions of the facilities and equipment management;
- adequate and readily available feed and water, according to the animals’ needs;
- health management, prevention of the main health issues and prudent use of veterinary medicines;
- animal handling practices and the human-animal relationship;
- observable indicators relating to the animals (Animal-Based Measures);
- farm biosecurity.
